“Salt Lake Community College’s Principles of Scientific Molding program is a fast-track, high-impact training solution that prepares students for in-demand jobs in Utah’s injection molding industry. Supported by Utah Works funding, this 80-hour in-person course teaches the process engineering skills required to become a Process Technician, a critical role in modern plastic manufacturing environments.
Taught by instructors with real-time industry experience, including from partners like Merit Medical, the course enables students to develop, optimize, and document molding processes for quality and efficiency. Graduates receive a certificate of completion and are immediately connected with employer partners for job placement in roles that pay well and offer strong career advancement potential.
This program is a standout example of how industry-education partnerships can rapidly scale the local workforce in technical manufacturing—especially as more companies “near-shore” production to Utah.”
