Principles of Scientific Molding

“Salt Lake Community College’s Principles of Scientific Molding (WTSM 200) is an intensive, employer-aligned training program that equips individuals with the skills to become entry-level Process Technicians in Utah’s fast-growing injection molding industry. Backed by Talent Ready Utah’s Utah Works grant, this 80-hour in-person course prepares participants to troubleshoot equipment, develop production processes, and apply scientific molding principles—key competencies needed to support manufacturers as they ‘near-shore’ production and expand operations locally.

SLCC is the only injection molding training provider west of the Mississippi, and local employers such as Merit Medical rely on this program to upskill machine operators into higher-paid roles with greater responsibility. The curriculum is designed and taught in close partnership with industry, and completers are actively supported through job placement services and direct connections to employer HR teams.

This program is a strong example of how short-term, high-impact training can directly support employer hiring needs, expand local technical talent pipelines, and build long-term industry capacity.”
